Assessment Data: Tracking Student and Cohort Progress

Some of you have data systems for tracking individual student data and for tracking cohort data. These might be in place via your department or school. Some of you don’t have systems in place, so I’ve put a couple of options to use below in case you are interested in looking at them or using them – either as they are or as a basis for what you want to do.
I have also developed an assessment data app which is more comprehensive. Your school may have access to this – but, if not, please speak with your executive or contact me directly if you are interested in having a demonstration of the app.
Overall Information
I have put two spreadsheets below that you can use to track individual students, classrooms or whole school data. The first is a simple one that I developed that many of you will have as I have shared it at the literacy intensive for a number of years. The second one is a spreadsheet developed for Bullimbal School by the NSW Department of Education and Training.

Simple Spreadsheet
This spreadsheet was based on one that was shared with me by the Centre for Literacy and Disability Studies. The conventional tab was based on the spreadsheet that they developed – the other tabs were all created by me. It’s a simple spreadsheet which most people with a working knowledge of Excel are able to use.
Built into the spreadsheet is the ability to track changes across year for a specific student. We have also used it to track changes across a whole group e.g. the emergent students.
Spreadsheet created for Bullimbal School
This spreadsheet was created by an Excel genius working at the NSW DET – and was setup based on the criteria given by Bullimbal School. I was lucky enough to have a say as well!
It’s a very clever spreadsheet that provides you with some cohort data as well as having the capacity to create a data wall card for each student. It is also quite a bit trickier to use – I know I needed a lesson to understand how to use it. So, I have created a video tour which is below. Hopefully this helps you get your head around it!
